Rumble

A Contemporary Voice for the Bridge that Sings

BLINK Cincinnati

October 2019

Challenge:

BLINK Cincinnati approached us with a vision to transform the iconic Roebling Bridge into a symbol of connection and celebration. They wanted to create a stunning and immersive experience that would not only highlight the bridge’s historical significance but also connect two cities.

Solution:

We brought this vision to life by creating “Rumble,” turning the Roebling Bridge into a dynamic , singing structure. We developed and installed a hyper-synchronized light and sound score that seamlessly connected Ohio and Kentuckyand celebrated the spirit of the Queen City.

The transformation of the Roebling Bridge through “Rumble” captivated and inspired approximately 1.5 million visitors, making it a highlight of BLINK Cincinnati 2019.

Waking the Monster

October 2015

Fenway Park, Boston

Challenge:

The ILLUMINUS Festival sought to create an extraordinary event that would transform Boston’s Fenway Park area into an engaging and interactive art campus. They wanted a hero installation that would act as the destination event,  to  captivate the audience and create a memorable experience.

Solution:

MF Dynamics transformed the Green Monster into a three-story percussion instrument with “Waking the Monster.” Nine percussionists performed six original compositions commissioned for the event, with additional performances by a violinist/singer, trombone ensemble, and DJ/drummer duo. Eight interactive triggers synchronized animations with the music, creating a cohesive sensory experience. The event attracted over 30,000 visitors, making it a highlight of the ILLUMINUS Festival and fulfilling the goal of creating a memorable, performative experience.

Hatched: Breaking through the Silence

January – February 2021

Hatch Memorial Shell, Boston

Challenge:

To mark the 20th Anniversary of the Esplanade Association’s successful public-private partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), the Esplanade Association (EA) wanted to provide a family-friendly and pandemic-conscious celebration at the famed Hatch Memorial Shell.

Solution:

"Hatched" is a 15-minute visual and sound installation by MF Dynamics, designed specifically for the 80-year-old Hatch Memorial Shell amphitheater. Using Epson laser projectors in custom-built weatherproof housings, the installation brought vibrant colors and forms to the Shell’s inner surface, allowing for a rare winter projection mapping experience despite New England's harsh weather.

The installation celebrated the Shell's rich musical history with projection-mapped visuals, featuring geometric shapes of musical instruments, human hands clapping, and colorful animations that highlighted the Shell's Art Deco design. Set to new music composed by Finkelmeier and recorded by local musicians, "Hatched" transformed the amphitheater into a dynamic canvas of light and sound.

WHAT WE DO

Two musicians performing on stage with colorful light projections in the background. One playing the saxophone, wearing a hat, and the other playing the xylophone, with studio lighting and musical equipment around them.

Live Performances

We work harmoniously to design and produce performances inviting observers into the process, while investigating the latest technologies. From placing 90 performers in a public park to intimate duo performances integrating AI driven music and poetry, we define our own performance parameters.

Public Art Installations

We work with organizations, commissioning bodies, municipalities, curators, and institutions to design reflective, vibrant, and interactive installations that enhance and connect with communities.
Each project team is developed specifically to meet the needs of the engagement and community.

Testimonials

  • Maria Finkelmeier and her team at MF Dynamics are truly at the forefront of experiential art in Boston. On our project – Hatched: Breaking Through the Silence – her multidisciplinary approach allowed for the best possible combination of creatives who were handpicked to suit the needs of the project. The level of professionalism, skills, expertise, and exuberance among team members at MF Dynamics makes them all a joy to work with. Simply put, they will execute what they promise – and then some!

Michael Nichols, Executive Director, Esplanade Association, Boston, MA

  • We were thrilled to work with Maria and her team at MF Dynamics to host Project Daydream in the Cyclorama in November 2020. They were exceptionally professional, responsive, and collaborative - qualities made all the more essential given that their project was the first we had done live in the Cyclorama since the outset of the pandemic. The process was smooth, but the outcome - the art - was beyond our expectations and exactly what we needed. We were proud and honored to host the work in our space, and we hope to find more ways to collaborate in the future.
